Learning and Sharing
by Rev. Jayne Jarvis
The following is one of 3 special experiences I've had practicing Divine Love:
Back in 1989 while driving my son to his first year of college in Greensboro NC we stopped at a fast food place to pick up breakfast. He went into the store while I waited in the car.
Parked next to me was a vehicle full of chattering young men eating in their vehicle. As they ate, they threw out their refuse on the ground between our vehicles. It greatly annoyed me. I could feel the self-righteousness build up within me! I was preparing to speak to them with some sharp tones of complaint. Before I did so, an angel thought caught me saying "are you sure you want to communicate that self righteous tone? What kind of result do you think you'll have?"
I have to admit I was setting myself up for an argument of who, not what, was right!
So I remained quiet for a bit to see if Spirit, God opened my mouth.
Not too long after that prayer I found myself saying to them, "you know we all have to live in this world and share the space. I would so appreciate it if you would pick up these items you've dropped here, please. With that, each one of these men got out and began cleaning up the mess! I smiled and said how grateful I was and that their mothers would likely be happy too!
I'm not sure which of us learned the bigger lesson! But I do know that a love for the environment, my fellowman and yes, for me was evident that day!

Thanks for the reminder to be more graceful!
What a wonderful spiritual intervention. Thank you.
Nice, Jayne. Honey or vinegar? is the question that often comes to me before opening my trap!
Love it!!!!!
Great reminder to stop and listen. Take a breath pull the experience into your heart before you express your opinion. I Love that the boys learned a loving lesson and so did you. Thanks Jayne.
